Nature’s Arsenal

The ability to repress, prevent and reverse the growth of cancer is the core reason to follow this program.

Besides being an excellent diet, the colorful fruits, vegetables, soy, mushrooms and sea vegetables improve biological processes due to their unique library of phytochemicals.

Eating these foods provides all the nutrients required for health.

Since the bio-availabilty of some of these phytopigments is low, phrmaceutical grade supplements are strongly recommended.

Repressing inflammation and facilitating recovery are the two most sited reasons for following a botanical approach to dieting.

Not necessarily vegetarian, but one in which the diet has the predominance of its nutrients derived from plants.

Plant nutrients help athletes perform make better decisions.

They fortify the lines against the forces of illness

It appears the compounds in these foods has garnered interest from the Drug companies as starting points for new drug discoveries.

Members of these libraries are now under investigative in studies to determine cell death or apoptosis.

The member of the library can then be altered, patented, trialed and ultimately marketed as a cancer drug.

There is no immunity.

There is only prevention. And it doesn't work for everyone.

Cancer begins when DNA undergoes a mutation or change in its chemistry.

This damage is caused by a carcinogen, a cancer-causing agent.

Agents include: rays of the sun, cigarette smoke, toxic chemicals, inflammatory compounds, all kinds of kines and active hormones produced by the body.

With so many agents, to remain cancer free, one must stimulate immunity and neutralie as many agents as possible.

The initiation of cancer involves the formation of a DNA adduct (a carcinogenic compound bound to DNA.

DNA adduct formation causes a faulty or incomplete replication of the cell’s DNA and the initiation of a mutation. This mutagenesis begins the cancer cycle

In most cases the body’s self-correcting forces repairs the damage, but when this does not happen and the body is unable to effect DNA repair, carcinogenesis takes place.

There are interesting combination of natural products, which have attempted to interfere with this process.

The combination involves resveratrol, N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) , lipoic acid, and melatonin.

These four natural compounds help the body block specific estrogen metabolites from binding to DNA. This prevents the formation of adducts and the consequential mutations that occur.

The combination is said to be more effective than the individual compounds and is deemed preventive for breast and prostate cancers.

Many phytocompounds are known for their protective antioxidant effect.

They form a barrier to help the body fight above sited toxins.

Reservatrol (resorcinol) is the polyphenol found in wine. It is a powerful antioxidant synthesized and stored in the skin of the red grape

Cruciferous vegetables come from plants in the family of Brassicaceae or Cruciferae.

These vegetables includes Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, mustard greens, kohlrabi, rutabaga, turnips, book choy, arugula, horseradish, radish, wasabi, and watercress and kale.

They are known as cruciferous vegetables because their four equal-sized flowers resemble a cross.

Cruiferous vegetables are a rich source of glucosinolates, sulfur-containing compounds that gives the plants their pungent aroma and bitter taste.  Chewing and digesting them releases their biologically active compounds, the isothiocyanates and indoles.

These two medicinal compounds contain sulfur and nitrogen respectively.

Isothiocyanates aid in the detoxification and elimination of carcinogens and may suppress the development of cancer by turning on tumor suppressor genes in precancerous cells.

Indoles influence the activity of estrogens and may reduce the incidence and severity of hormone-related cancers, such as breast and prostate cancers.

Garlic contains the mineral germanium (Ge), a non-essential nutrient for humans.

Germanium is now thought to reduce the risk of cancer by enhancing immunity.

Germanium is found deep in the earth's crust as well as plants that spring from it like garlic, wheat, bran and seeds.

Tomatoes contain the antioxidant, lycopene.

Lycopene is considered a cancer-preventive phytonutrient.

Once lycopene enters the blood it preferentially targets the prostate gland, lungs and eye.

Its antioxidant activity is thought to prevent prostate cancer.

Pomegranate juice contains antioxidants and tannins, called punicalagins.

The most researched of them is the ellagitannin complex.

When ellagitannins are hydrolysed, they release ellagic acid, which is converted n the colon to urolithin A and is preferentially deposited in the prostate gland.
